About Pastor Alex |
|
My name is Alexander Gee, Jr., and I’m affectionately known around FOL church as Pastor Alex. I have served this wonderful church in some capacity or another for over thirty years. (This ministry started in my family’s living room when I was in middle school). Hometown: Chicago, IL, but my family moved to Madison when I was six and I have been here ever since. Hobbies: travelling, going to movies, laughing and joking with good friends and family, cooking, eating (forgive me, Jesus), writing, taking vacations with my family, and playing soccer with my daughter. Previous employment: Retail Management at Kohl’s Department Store; Student Advising & Community Liaison at University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of Admissions, School of Pharmacy and Office of the Chancellor, respectively. (It’s important to note that I was a bi-vocational pastor for over twenty years, which means that while I held these other jobs, I was still pastoring FOL church.) Childhood dreams: Becoming President of the United States, being an astronaut, being a pilot, being a hypnotist (don’t ask!) Fondest childhood memories: Family get-togethers at my grandmother’s house with all my aunts, uncles and cousins. It would take our parents 30 minutes to get all the kids in the car because we’d chase each other and play “last tag” until we were forced into our respective cars by our parents. Favorite foods: Soul food, Chicago-Style hotdogs, my mother’s BBQ Chicken, Pizza Pit Pizza (extra cheese & extra sauce), shrimp fried rice, chicken chimichangas, orange Tang, anything with BBQ sauce on it and orange sherbet. Places I’ve traveled: US & Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Israel, India, Thailand, Switzerland, England, Italy and Germany. Place I’d like to travel: Africa (all over), Japan, Fiji, Greece. Favorite Eateries: Outback Steakhouse, Chipotle Grill, White Castle (don’t tell anyone!), Texas Roadhouse, P.F. Chang, Samba Brazilian Barbeque. When I am in L.A or Long Beach I love to eat at The Yard House, Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffle, and California Pizza Kitchen. Proudest moment: Being in the delivery room watching my wife and our one-pound-eight-ounce premature daughter fight for my fatherhood. Memorable achievements: Being happily married for twenty years, becoming a father, serving as pastor in the same church for 27 years, starting and operating a community development corporation, writing two books, running at National Junior Olympics in high school, leading bible study at the White House for White House Staff, leading my best friends to the Lord as a teen. Favorite Movies: Shawshank Redemption, Five Heartbeats, Memento, Waterboy, Color Purple, Antwon Fisher, What’s Love Got To Do With It, Boyz in the Hood, Life is Beautiful, Ray, Pursuit of Happyness, Wanderers, Jerry Maguire, Matrix, Something About Mary, Dogma, A Bronx Tale, Love and Basketball, Forrest Gump, The Incredibles, and Sixth Sense. Favorite T.V. Shows: 24, Mad-TV, Scrubs. Back in the days my favorites were, Gilliagan’s Island, Munters, Bewitched, Zoom, Flintstones, H.R. Puffenstuff, Starsky and Hutch, Fantasy Island, Eight is Enough, Dick Van Dyke Show, Johnny Carson , Good Times, What’s Happening and The Carol Burnett Show. How I’d like to moon-light if no one recognized me: Stand-up comic, Maitre d’ at an upscale restaurant, Game show host, Theme park character that walks around scaring kids.
